Towards Village Banking - New Delhi Atlantic Publishers and Distributors 2003 - 113

The restructurisation of financial sector has wider implications on the macro-economic variables operating in the money market. The trend of village banking is a dint to the existing co-operative and commercial banking system in India. This book is an outcome of a continuous research made by the author in the field of rural credit in India. The author’s scheme of Co-operative Village Bank has been empirically evidenced and tested in the case of Mini Kisan Banks i.e., a conversion of Primary Agricultural Co-operative Credit Societies (PACS) into a banking unit in Kolhapur District (Maharashtra). The Co-operative Village Banking (CVB) was initially highlighted in one of the books of the author. The same has been empirically tested and revised in the framework of financial sector reforms and village banking trend worldwide. His alternative model has attained a good result in Kolhapur District. Hence, it is advocated as an alternative model of rural co-operative credit system in India. This will be a new impetus to the co-operative movement in the new millennium
